Kelly's story

This run is being set up as an annual event in memory of my sister Kelly Thompson who sadly lost her life aged just 34 years on 31st May 2017 after battling cancer for 7 short weeks.

Kelly was born and lived in Huddersfield all her life attending school in Dalton and Almondbury. She was a mum to two young boys aged 4 years and 11 years old.

After being diagnosed Kelly spent 5 weeks on the Teenage Cancer Trust Ward at St James hospital in Leeds. The staff who cared for Kelly did an amazing job in making her last few weeks as comfortable as possible, and I can't thank the staff enough which is why I have chosen the Teenage Cancer Trust as my charity.

After Kelly's death we placed a memorial bench at Scammonden Dam, where my nephews and I spend many days visiting, which is why we have chosen this location for the ‘Rainbow Run Huddersfield’.

Look For Me in Rainbows

Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;

Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.

In the morning sunrise when all the world is new

Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Time for me to leave you, I won't say goodbye;

Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.

In the evening sunset, when all the world is through.

Just look for me and love me, and I'll be close to you.

It won't be forever, the day will come and then

my loving arms will hold you, when we meet again.

Time for us to part now, we wont say goodbye;

Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.

Every waking moment, and all your whole life through

Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Just wish me to be near you,

and I'll be there with you.
